This dormitory was built for NYU by architect Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates in 1999. The previous building on this site, known as the Academy of Music and then The Palladium, served as a deluxe movie palace, an iconic rock venue, and later a nightclub. An even earlier building here housed the reading room that eventually became the New York Free Circulating Library.
