Opened in 1962, the private Howard Park General Hospital lasted only three years. Closing in 1965 amid allegations and investigations of financial impropriety, the building (designed by A.H. Salkowitz) soon became a city-run methadone clinic, despite neighborhood protests. The clinic was closed in the 1970s due to budget cuts. Today the building serves as senior housing.
