John Zaloga's restaurant and bar served the rooming house neighborhood. The men at the bar likely lived nearby.

In 1961, the Zalogas' liquor license was temporarily suspended, when State Liquor Authority agents discovered minors drinking at the bar. Several neighboring bars were also closed as a result of the state raid.
