158 Bleeker Street was home to the Village Gate, a legendary nightclub and performance space opened by Art D'Lugoff in 1958.

Initially built as separate townhouses (Nos. 144 and 146), Placido Mori commissioned the then-unknown Raymond Hood (future architect of Rockefeller Center) to create a unified facade for his expanding restaurant. As part of Hood’s compensation, he received an apartment upstairs.

Bayard-Condict Building
Described in its 1974 LPC Designation Report as, "the most significant commercial building utilizing skyscraper structural techniques in New York City," the Bayard-Condict Building was both a structural and architectural modern marvel for the city. Completed in 1899, this office and loft building is the only structure constructed in New York to the designs of famed Chicago architect Louis Sullivan.
Described in its 1974 LPC Designation Report as, "the most significant commercial building utilizing skyscraper structural techniques in New York City," the Bayard-Condict Building was both a structural and architectural modern marvel for the city.
