"Herman Raucher (born April 13, 1928) is an American author and screenwriter. He is best known for writing the autobiographical screenplay and novel Summer of '42, which became one of the highest-grossing films and one of the best selling novels of the 1970s, respectively. He began his writing career during the Golden Age of Television, when he moonlighted as a scriptwriter while working for a Madison Avenue advertising agency. He effectively retired from writing in the 1980s after a number of projects failed to come to fruition, though his books remain in print and a remake of one of his films, Sweet November, was produced in 2001.Raucher was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Sophie (Weinshank) and Benjamin Brooks Raucher. His father was a World War I veteran whom Raucher recalled as having a bayonet wound across his forehead. The family's financial situation fluctuated according to the success of the elder Raucher's career. During more profitable years, the family vacationed on Nantucket. During one such trip, when he was fourteen, Raucher developed a friendship with an older woman he identified as "Dorothy", a war bride whose husband was fighting in Europe, an event which formed the basis for Summer of '42." "Frank Tarloff (February 4, 1916 – June 25, 1999) was a blacklisted American screenwriter who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Father Goose. A child of Polish immigrant parents, Tarloff grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended Abraham Lincoln High School and Brooklyn College. He began writing for stage and radio in the 1940s, and his first major film credit was Behave Yourself!. He was called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1953, was categorized as a hostile witness, and was blacklisted. He spent the next 12 years living with family in England and writing under pseudonyms such as "David Adler" for shows such as I Married Joan, The Real McCoys, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Andy Griffith Show.He received the Academy Award for Father Goose together with S. H. Barnett and Peter Stone and was also nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for best comedy writing. He received a WGA Award nomination for best comedy writing for A Guide for the Married Man, which he wrote on his own. He is also known for co-writing The Secret War of Harry Frigg. He returned to television at the end of his career, writing for The Jeffersons." In 1925 he lived at 1257 36th Street

Forsythe starred in three television series, spanning three decades, as single playboy father Bentley Gregg in the 1950s sitcom Bachelor Father \[1957–1962); as the unseen millionaire Charles Townsend on the popular 1970s crime drama Charlie's Angels (1976–1981), and as ruthless and beloved patriarch Blake Carrington on the popular 1980s soap opera Dynasty (1981–1989). He's also well-known for hosting World of Survival during the 1970s. Forsythe appeared each year to read children's fiction during the annual Christmas program near his retirement home at the rural resort community of Solvang, California, north of Los Angeles." "Joseph Roland Barbera (March 24, 1911 – December 18, 2006) was an American animator, director, producer, storyboard artist, and cartoon artist, whose film and television cartoon characters entertained millions of fans worldwide for much of the 20th century. He was born to Italian immigrants in New York City, where he lived, attended college and began his career through his young adult years. After working odd jobs and as a banker, Barbera joined Van Beuren Studios in 1927 and subsequently Terrytoons in 1929. In 1930, he moved to California and while working at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Barbera met William Hanna. The two men began a collaboration that was at first best known for producing Tom and Jerry. In 1957, after MGM dissolved their animation department, they co-founded Hanna-Barbera, which became the most successful television animation studio in the business, producing programs such as The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, The Smurfs, Huckleberry Hound, and The Jetsons. In 1967, Hanna-Barbera was sold to Taft Broadcasting for $12 million, but Hanna and Barbera remained heads of the company. In 1991, the studio was sold to Turner Broadcasting System, which in turn was merged with Time Warner, owners of Warner Bros., in 1996; Hanna and Barbera stayed on as advisors. Hanna and Barbera directed seven Academy Award films and won eight Emmy Awards. Their cartoon shows have become cultural icons, and their cartoon characters have appeared in other media such as films, books, and toys. Hanna-Barbera's shows had a worldwide audience of over 300 million people in the 1960s and have been translated into more than 28 languages." In 1920 Barbera was living at 1220 Church Avenue. Famous gangster Red Levine lived here in 1940. Born in 1903. "Levine was a member of the notorious Mafia gang, Murder, Inc., and is credited with being the trigger man, with Dutch Schultz lieutenant Abraham "Bo" Weinberg, in the 1931 murders of Joe "The Boss" Masseria and, along with Joe Adonis, Albert "Mad Hatter" Anastasia and Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, of Salvatore Maranzano. Red Levine had a longstanding rivalry with fellow Murder Inc hitman, Charles "The Bug" Workman. He was irritated that the greedy Workman took most of the murder contracts which would have otherwise been handed over to him. In his court testimony, Abe Reles recalled that Levine once complained to him that "any time I've got a contract Charlie is around to do the killing".Levine was one of the three hitmen sent by Meyer Lansky to assassinate the Sicilian mafia boss Salvatore Maranzano in his office. They managed to enter by posing as police detectives. Once inside his office on the 9th floor of The Helmsley Building, they disarmed Maranzano's guards. The four men then shot and stabbed Salvatore Maranzano to death.There is no mention of him when most of the Murder, Inc., and their surrounding factions were rounded up and successfully prosecuted by the end of 1940. He simply faded into the background and was never heard from again at some undetermined point."

Charlie Workman lived here in 1939 "America's most notorious Jewish hit man was Charlie "The Bug" Workman. His media legacy was that he killed the infamous Jewish Mob Boss, Dutch Schultz in 1935. However, his true legacy was much different than the "killer/thug/hoodlum" reputation that the general-public was fed.First and foremost, behind prison walls for 24 years, his top priority was keeping his beloved son Chuck out of the mob. As he told his mob contingent, "Anyone who tries to bring my son into this life, will answer to me when I get out." Due to his street reputation as a man of respect and honor in and outside the mob world, he accomplished just that. He kept his promise to the only child he had. How he managed to do that is something legends are made of."

My late father in law, Martin Mines, lived at 124 Chester Avenue in 1941. Soon afterwards he would serve in World War II as a naval officer gaining expertise in radar. He was the successful owner of a thriving commercial printing business as well as a skilled amateur botanist. He was a devoted husband and father of 5 girls, a man who was loved and admired by everyone whose lives he touched.
