Manhattan Life Insurance Building, 1945.
Designed by Kimball & Thompson for the Manhattan Life Insurance Company, the Manhattan Life Building became New York City's tallest skyscraper in 1893. It was also the first office building to use pneumatic caissons (watertight retaining structures) its foundation. The building was 348 feet tall.
The building was demolished in 1963-1964 for the construction of a 36-story annex to the Irving Trust Company Building at One Wall Street.
