Queens Memory
Start
10-12 Main Avenue
Adelaide was roaming Queens, with a book in hand, when she found herself in a community garden in the heart of Astoria. Finding a bench, she proceeded to read a few pages before a photograph slipped out. Holding it in her hand, the paper shivered and her surroundings blurred. Looking up, she saw that the image was now superimposed on her surroundings! Seeing this, she realized that the garden used to be a firehouse.
1
Astoria Park
Marveling at this new historical vision she had, Adelaide decided to see if this vision would apply to other parts of Queens. She headed to Astoria Park, and while she passed the War Memorial, she saw empty space instead of the famous pool! As the pool opened in 1936, she realized this must have been from 1931 instead. Spying a person in traditional dress, she decided to follow him.
2
Quaker Meeting House and Graveyard
Feeling a bit hungry, Adelaide headed towards Flushing to grab a mid-day snack. Roaming in the neighborhood, she felt a car rush by- just a bit too close. Annoyed, she turned, and saw one of those earlier cars. Based on the model, she guessed that she was seeing a scene from 1922.

59-81 Fresh Pond Road
Following the car, she found herself running through the borough, until she landed in front of a long stretch of road, in Maspeth. A bit too quiet for her, she turned and continued on her way. As she walked, she noticed that her historical view no longer look superimposed on her present, but seemed to be taking over. With a chill up her spine, she hurried to her next destination.
4
Metzger's Hotel
Having run so far, she remembered a nearby mall. Walking over, her tired legs wanted a rest. Once she approached her destination though, she saw instead Metzger's Hotel! While not what she expected, she went inside to sit for a little. Walking in, she saw a plush, ghost-like seat. Sitting on it, she realized her historical vision had extended to her physical self and that she was now traversing through the past!
5
Niederstein's Hotel and Restaurant
Having rested a while, Adelaide started to get hungry again, and walked right to Niederstein's Hotel and Restaurant! Smelling the beef goulash, weiner schnitzel, sauerbraten and bratwurst that had been served from 1888, she ran to grab a bite. However, walking inside, she remembered the business was closed in 2005 and the building was razed soon after. A bit sad, she grabbed her ghostly meal, and headed back on her adventure.
6
Jeromus Vanderveer House and Barn
Adelaide continued to walk and found herself by farmland. She remembered that this borough used to be fairly rural, especially in eastern Queens.
7
Jamaica Town Hall
Continuing east, Adelaide found herself in Jamaica Town Hall. The Town Hall would be demolished in 1941, but for now, she could at least enjoy its architecture.
8
Broadway Boardwalk at 102nd Street
Turning sotuh, Adelaide found herself in Hamilton Beach, previously known as “Ramblersville,” and “West Hamilton Beach” prior to neighboring JFK’s expansion. She walked alongside the 1960s and took in some of the fresh air.
9
Hawtree Creek
Jumping into a boat, Adelaide rowed herself amongst the houses. Dipping her hands into the water, the chill shocked her, and the present returned. With the historical vision gone, she felt a bit nostalgic, but happy to have walked alongside history.
