I’ve been surrounded by nature and felt a strong awareness of belonging to it, great admiration and respect for our planet. We are in a transitory situation. The pass will never come back and we do not know the future. This is a LIMINAL condition. The environment is threatened and shows the urgent need for changes. Artist Statement: Artist, researcher, and educator, with a french father and a Mexican mother, Monique was born in São Paulo. Her artworks are experimental and procedural, with frequent improvisation, public participation, and socio-environmental engagement. They investigate identity and its dynamic relation with space, time, and others. Performances, urban interventions, and audio-visual installations are offered. Exploration and hybridization of media, such as audio, video, photography, and painting are used to expand undefined zones of transition. How to subverting space-time constraints, to obtain perceptual situations of encounter and exchange, in which a present continuous time can be experienced? During a quarantine walk, the one respite during the day, I was intrigued by their form. The painting is both serene and dynamic at once. Phragmites are symbols of endurance, one of the oldest plants able to survive at the edges of water and land.” Artist Statement: "Art helps me process the paradox, emotional malaise and contradiction in my personal life as well as the world around me. It was very hard for me to stay locked down for too many months at home. When I could get out of my house, I saw everything from a different perspective. Life is beautiful, and we can’t get bored with nature. I am very proud of what I accomplished during this period of my life. Life and nature are beautiful, and I am more and more enchanted of what we can accomplish through the walking around that I have done.” Artist Statement: I dream in vivid color. I paint in layers of color. Each layer that I paint exposes a new dimension. The shapes that are formed dictate my direction. I wanted to clear clutters in my head. I started walking with no destination planned to calm my mind and worries. And when I looked up, there was an answer I was seeking; courage to move forward to my chosen path with confidence. I stood there to absorb the joy of the reflection and took this photo with my iPhone. We must be willing to be present and respond despite the fear of uncertainty and change which I hope viewers to feel. Photoshop did not retouch this photo. Artist Statement: I recognize the nature itself is unique and beautifully irregular. It frequently delivers countless and unexpected concepts that are reflected in my art. As an artist, I am responsible for creating the beauty that exists beyond my vision with my craftsmanship. The dogs were nine dogs rescued from India street by the actual guardian and brought here. Three remain with him, and six found a lovely new home. I imagined a little boy guardian, deeply connected with nature, talk with them like they have their world.” Artist Statement: My work is about babies and kids in a cruel world. Some subjects are playful and some interrogative of the time we live, without accepting the dominant order of living creature, small humans can observe a lot and cannot agree with the adult explanation sensing something is wrong.
