This 1941 bus terminal is where part of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" was filmed. The terminal retained its name when it was replaced by the Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street Station in 2003.

"Trains Meadow," a marshy rural area, was renamed Jackson Heights by the Queensboro Corporation in 1914. The name honored John C. Jackson, after which Jackson Avenue (now Northern Boulevard) was called.

The Queensboro Corporation developed farmland and unused lots into apartment buildings and community gardens marketed towards the middle and upper-middle class looking to escape the overcrowding of Manhattan.

Though development began before any train line reached it, the arrival of the IRT Flushing Line (now the 7 line) expedited the growth of the area.

Jackson Heights offered residents a more suburban environment, while still being a train-ride away from Manhattan.

The Jackson Heights garden apartments characterized the neighborhood, providing residents with quiet private parks to enjoy.

After apartments were constructed, leftover land was turned in to community parks and golf courses.

Jackson Heights has changed remarkably from the planned community that the Queensboro Corporation envisioned. Undeveloped land was later filled in, and the area is now notably one of the most diverse communities in the city.
