Church of the Transfiguration ca. 1910 Built in neo-Gothic style, Transfiguration has 14th-century stained glass, elegant chapels, and a picturesque garden oasis. The church provided sanctuary to African-Americans during the Civil War and has a long-time association with the acting community; a world-famous actor gave it the nickname "The Little Church Around the Corner" when Transfiguration agreed to perform the funeral of an actor friend when other churches would not. Thousands of couples were married at the church during World War II. In addition to guided tours and musical performances, historic church vestments will be on display throughout OHNY Weekend. Transfiguration is an Anglo-Catholic parish with a beautiful and formal liturgy, and a 180-year reputation for welcoming those marginalized by society.
The church will be offering the following tours and events during OHNY Weekend, with music on the hour and tours on the half-hour.
