Elevator entrance to the 149th Street–Grand Concourse Station, The Bronx, 1980
The 149th Street–Grand Concourse Station (served by the 2, 4, and 5 trains) is full of surprises, inside and out. The ornamental terracotta on the elevator shaft reads "MOTT AVENUE STATION"; that is the station's — and street’s — original name. Mott Avenue was swallowed up in the 1920s when the Grand Concourse was extended.
