🍦Karl Droge Ice Cream was a long-time neighborhood mainstay. Generations of local children satisfied their sweet tooth here. The shop remained open until the 1980s.

The Alpine Theatre opened on June 6, 1921. The Alpine was notable at the time for being first Loew’s theatre anywhere with its entire seating capacity of 2,200 on one floor (no balcony or gallery). Today the movie theatre remains open with eight screens.🍿

The Shore Road Casino was a popular entertainment venue through World War II. Local novelist Gilbert Sorrentino opens his novel Little Casino, “The Greek, in his rented white dinner jacket and black tuxedo trousers, was throwing up on himself in front of the Shore Road Casino. The salt of the earth.” 🍸

Built in 1915, the Bay Ridge Theatre was one of a number of movie houses in the neighborhood. Hubert Selby Jr., author of "Last Exit to Brooklyn" and "Requiem for a Dream," grew up across the street from the theatre and set one of his short stories there.

📽️ The RKO Dyker Theatre opened on November 26, 1926. Its final film“The Domino Principle” screened in March 1977. Today the vertical sign says Modell's, its current occupant.

This corner location has been a bar since the early 20th century. The interior details, including dark wood molding and delicately stained glass partitions, highlight its vintage. Vogel's here in 1940, today it is the Three Jolly Pigeons. 🍻

Opened in 1924, the RKO Shore Road movie theatre was out of business by 1951. The building has been occupied by retail ever since.

🎞️ >🏋️ The Harbor Theatre opened in 1935 and closed 1979 with “Norma Rae" as its final film. Similar to many old theatres in the outer boroughs, this large space has been converted to a fitness venue. In the 1980s it was the Harbor Racquetball Club, and today it is a gym.

The precursor to Pete's Clam Stop on Surf Avenue?! In the 1960s this building housed a popular Italian restaurant called Casa Bianca.
