This Jane’s Walk explores the community activism in the 1980s and 1990s that reshaped the Lower East Side, chiefly the reclamation of spaces that were left abandoned in the wake of the NYC financial crisis that defined the 1970s and 1980s. Squatters and homesteaders repurposed lots and buildings into gardens, homes, and community centers. MoRUS invites you to join us virtually on this tour and afterwards, to continue to learn about the long history of reclaimed spaces in this neighborhood and across New York City. You can reach us at morusnyc.org and at 155 Avenue C, in the storefront of C-Squat.
