One of only two non-sectarian burial grounds in Manhattan, this historic cemetery contains 258 underground burial vaults and has seen the funerals of many distinguished citizens, including President James Monroe and the founders of many city institutions. Architect: Perkins Nichols, 1831

Oldest non-sectarian, privately-owned burial ground in the city. The half-acre Greek Revival-style open space is hidden in the interior of the block, accessible through iron gates and a 100-foot long private alley. The garden is surrounded by 12-foot tall marble walls. There are no individual markers on the lawn; only marble plaques in the wall name the original wealthy merchant families, whose 156 underground burial chambers (vaults), collectively hold more than 2,000 remains. While the deep underground vaults are not accessible to the public, the names and occupations of the dead are all detailed in the cemetery's registers. Architect: Perkins Nichols, 1830

Completed in 1846, Grace Church in New York is one of the earliest examples of Gothic revival architecture in New York City. Designed by James Renwick, Jr. at the age of twenty three, the building and its campus hold three celebrated distinctions: New York City Landmark, National Register of Historic Places, and National Historic Landmark. Grace Church remains an active Episcopal congregation. Its landmark buildings feature designs by Renwick, a renovation and extension by Heins & La Farge, decoration by Tiffany, windows by Clayton & Bell, along with many other celebrated artisans. The Bicentennial Organ, Opus 65, one of the finest instruments in the city, was completed in September 2013 by Taylor & Boody of Staunton, VA. It's comprised of 97 ranks and over five thousand pipes. Throughout the last decade, Grace Church has undergone significant interior restoration, including the Te Deum window rising above the altar and chancel at the front of the church. Headquarters for the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York. The building was completed in 1911 and has 13 Lodge rooms of unique and distinctive designs, a grand meeting room that can hold 1,000 and a library/museum of Masonic philosophy and history. Built in neo-Gothic style, Transfiguration has 14th-century stained glass, elegant chapels, and a picturesque garden oasis. The church provided sanctuary to African-Americans during the Civil War and has a long-time association with the acting community; a world-famous actor gave it the nickname "The Little Church Around the Corner" when Transfiguration agreed to perform the funeral of an actor friend when other churches would not. Thousands of couples were married at the church during World War II.

New York's famed Grand Central Station covers 48 acres and has 44 platforms, more than any other rail station in the world. The distinctive Beaux-Arts architecture and interior design including the Main Concourse's elliptical barrel-vaulted ceiling with its elaborate celestial mural have earned it several landmark designations. Beyond it's railway service function, Grand Central Station is one of the world's most visited tourist attractions, serving as a public meeting place and hosting a variety of stores and food vendors. One of the few remaining 18th-century buildings in Manhattan and the only surviving day hotel in the City, this converted carriage house was a popular 19th-century country resort for New Yorkers escaping the crowded city below 14th Street. The site's eight fully-furnished period rooms offer a trip back to 1830s New York City. The building opened as a museum in 1939 by The Colonial Dames of America. It is a NYC Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Built in the Modern Romanesque style popular in the late 1920s, Temple Emanu-El is one on the largest houses of worship in the world and the oldest Reform synagogue in New York City. The sanctuary features dazzling mosaics by noted muralist Hildreth Meiere, an intricately painted ceiling, and towering stained glass windows. Architect: Stein, Butler and Cohen, 1929

The Fletcher-Sinclair mansion was built in 1897 and designed by the well-known architect Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert. Today the site houses the Ukrainian Institute of America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. The building is designated as a National Historic Landmark and protected as a contributing element of the New York Metropolitan Museum Historic District. Architect: C.P.H. Gilbert, 1898

New York City is unlike anywhere else in the world and the Museum of the City of New York, located at the top of Museum Mile in East Harlem, is the place to explore its past, present, and future. This site was founded by Henry Collins Brown in 1923 to preserve and present the history of New York City, and its people. Architect: Joseph H. Freedlander, 1930

The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine is an active house of worship and an arts, cultural and civic center, as well as a feat of human engineering. Despite incomplete construction, it is the largest cathedral in the world by volume, which features Byzantine, Romanesque, and neo-Gothic architecture. The church sits on a 12-acre Close where visitors can explore the gardens, other historic buildings and resident peacocks. Architect: Heins & LaFarge, Cram & Ferguson, 1892

The final resting place of President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife, Julia, this is the largest mausoleum in North America. It testifies to a people's gratitude for the man who ended the bloodiest conflict in American history as Commanding General of the Union Army and then, as President of the United States, strove to heal a nation and make rights for all citizens a reality. The Morris-Jumel Mansion, was built in 1765 as a summer house by Colonel Roger Morris for his wife Mary Philipse and their family on 135 acres of land that stretched from the Harlem to Hudson Rivers between what is now 140th and approximately 18th Streets. Named Mount Morris, it was situated on one of the highest points of Manhattan and offered clear views of New Jersey, Connecticut, and all of New York harbor. Beyond a summer retreat, Mount Morris was also a working farm with cows and sheep in addition to fruit trees and a variety of crops. In 1776, the mansion briefly served as the headquarters of George Washington and his officers and was later used by both British and Hessian armies. By the mid-20th century, as the neighborhood grew into a vibrant hotbed for artists and black celebrities, the mansion was referred to by Duke Ellington as the "jewel in the crown of Sugar Hill." Today, the Morris-Jumel Mansion is the oldest house in Manhattan and as a museum highlights the art, architecture and lives of the Morris and Jumel families, while celebrating the changing landscape from the now lost Polo Grounds to the contemporary artists who find inspiration from this over 250 year old structure, and culture. Many parts of the musical Hamilton were composed here and the house has featured on Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures.
