Metal Exchange Building ca. 1910

Today we see only the stuccoed remains of this small masterpiece. Built as the Seventh Ward Bank, it later became the Metal Exchange, housing the Lion Brewery in its basement. This building with its delicate Corinthian pilasters is a fine late example of the Classic Revival in Manhattan, as it comes closer to Roman precedent than it does to Greek.
