Church of the United Brethren or the Moravian Church ca. 1954
A fine example of the so-called Dutch Colonial typified by a sweeping roof extended over a piazza and supported by built-up square columns. The building remained largely untouched except for repairs which have gradually over the years removed most of the original detail.
The Church of the United Brethren or the Moravian Church as it is more commonly called is one of the oldest extent churches in New York. Established on Staten Island as early as 1742, it was the church of the Vanderbilt family, which has endowed the lovely cemetery extending on three sides of the church and where the rest in a beautiful mausoleum all close members of the family.
