Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

Typical reminder, in its hollow pomposity, of an army which had not been engaged in a major struggle since 1865 and of the exploits of the Great White Fleet, this monument symbolized the stolid wealth and prosperity of our country at the time of its building.
