5-11 MacDougal Alley, ca. 1903.
This small street has been home to numerous artists including Jackson Pollock and Gertrude Vanderbilt. At no. 11 once was the former studio of the prolific muralist, Barry Faulkner. Faulkner's 12-panel series in Washington Irving High School depict key moments and figures in New York City's early history. They were conserved under the MAS Adopt-A-Mural program in 1998, with funds from several foundations including Putnam, Herman Goldman and Gramercy Park, in addition to funds from the NYC Board of Education and MAS Members.
