Walk around behind Mary’s sculpture; note the signature of the sculptor, Joel Tanner Hart. Hart also sculpted busts of Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay. Originally from Missouri, Hart established his studio in Florence, Italy, where he died in 1877. Sculptor Hiram Powers called Hart “the best bust-maker in the world.”
