This is Steeplechase Park, an amusement park in Coney Island created by George C. Tilyou. The park operated from 1897 to 1964 and was the first of the three original amusement parks built in Coney Island, the other two being Luna Park and Dreamland.

The New York State Volunteer Firemen's tournament at Coney Island produced lots of activity, including this rather complicated event, the three-man ladder race. Pictured here is the team entered by the group from Franklin Square with the Cyclone in the background looming over spectators.

This is Luna Park, one of Coney Island's original three amusement parks. The park operated from 1903 to 1944, when it was destroyed by a fire. At the center of Luna Park was a lake with a 200-foot tall Electric Tower!

In May of 1946, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported: "Check!--Tower of Parachute Jump at Steeplechase Park gets a checkup to ensure the safety of millions expected to try the jump this year, park's golden jubilee season."

What could be a more perfect combo? 🍔 + 🎡 = 🤢 ... Maybe, best to wait an hour after you eat to climb on the Wonder Wheel!

A 1905 view of Coney Island's Dreamland and tower which soared 370-feet above the park! According to Coney Island historian, Michael Immerso, the tower glowed like “some huge bonfire,” and was visible to ocean liners 20 miles out at sea when the park caught on fire in 1911.

Completed two years before the Statue of Liberty, this 200-foot tall elephant structure was very likely the first thing visible to incoming immigrants for a brief moment in history.

Long after the Dreamland burned to the ground in 1911, its name lived on at Coney Island. Here is the 1924 season cast of the "Dreamland Circus Sideshow." Offstage the group called themselves the Coney Island Social Club.

Captured in 1949, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle writes: "Bubble, bubble--Officials pour champagne down the hatch of a new sewage purification plant at the foot of Beach 50th Street, in Sea Gate. "
