H. I. Feldman designed this 1930 Art Deco apartment called the Cranlyn. Feldman didn't have his name carved into the building's cornerstone like many of his others. Instead, he left behind these two peacocks for posterity.

Look up! Above the neon sign advertising the Hotel St. George's corner liquor store, you'll find the dragons that were slain by the building's eponymous hero.

39 Pierrepont Street (3rd house from corner) might have lost its stoop in a 1924 renovation after this photo was taken -- but it gained two geese above the new front door!

Our friend Feldman is back with 1928's Hotel Pierrepont. Mixed in among the gargoyles and classical friezes are two ram-horned busts of Zeus-Ammon flanking the main door.

The Eagles fly again! The twin houses at 79 and 81 Pierrepont street were built with matching eagles above the front doors. No. 81 lost its eagle sometime in the mid-twentieth century, but it was recently restored.

Look very carefully at the doctor's office on the Pierrepont Street side of this apartment building. In the entryway are...more birds. I can't even begin to identify them, but there they are.

Pay close attention to the Behr Mansion's stone porch and its railings...more dragons!

The old Brooklyn Trust Company building sports a giant eagle above the front door and literally dozens of smaller birds in nooks and crannies of the facade. The real winners are the lamp posts, though. Your eye is drawn to the winged lions on the first tier of the base, but then you see them: the tortoises which form the base's second tier!

The Hotel Bossert is an architectural delight all the way up. Crane your neck to the top to see the lions adorning the cornice.
