Designed by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, Grand Army Plaza was built during the original construction of Prospect Park in the 1860s, one of the first parts of the park to be completed. A notable addition is the John H. Duncan's Soldiers and Sailors Arch, dedicated "to the defenders of the Union." Though construction on the arch began in 1889 and continued in 1892, it wasn't until 1898 that many of the statues and iconography were added.

This imposing apartment building was constructed in 1926 and was considered Brooklyn's first residential high rise. Built by developer Morris Turner, the apartments were originally rentals. It became a coop building in the early 1980s when the owners were forced to declare bankruptcy and a group of savvy residents sponsored a co-op conversion. That same four-bedroom apartment sold for the first time since it was originally purchased in 2015 and the asking price was $2.15 million.

The impressive Beaux-Arts Brooklyn Museum opened in 1897, but the history of the institution itself dates to the 1820s-era Brooklyn Apprentices' Library in Brooklyn Heights. That organization, through a series mergers and relocations, eventually became the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences in 1890, with the Museum as one of its subdivisions.

Named for the 28th President and completed in 1924, this apartment building was designed by brothers Joseph and Louis Shampan, who constructed many other similarly sized residential buildings in the surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. At six-stories, the early Art Deco building with Gothic details was the new standard for fashionable living on Eastern Parkway.

Constructed between 1924 and 1925, the Beaux-Arts style school building of the Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School for Girls was designed by Robert J. Reiley, one of the go-to architects for the Archdiocese of New York, whose Neoclassical columned facade fits in very well as the neighbor to McKim, Mead and White's Brooklyn Museum.

With or without patriotic bunting, this imposing red brick and brownstone structure once housed one of Brooklyn's most prestigious social clubs.

Wrought in a Collegiate Renaissance Revival style, the Brooklyn Training School for Teachers was both a training school for aspiring teachers and the school in which their training was put into practice.

This stretch of St. Mark's used to be occupied by a so-called "Millionaire's Row" of mansions, though most of the buildings have since been demolished.

Though now replaced with a LEED-certified Green building, the nation's first Children's museum was founded in two Victorian Mansions.

Though now a church, "Gates of Righteousness" inscription and accompanying Hebrew characters point towards its past as a synagogue.

Designed by Frank Helmle, an industrious Brooklyn architect, St. Gregory's was inspired by early Christian churches.

Founded to be the center of Jewish life in Crown Heights, the Brooklyn Jewish Center offered a variety of services to its visitors.

Though the architecture firm Halsey, McCormack & Helmer is better known for the Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower, they also worked on a smaller scale: this bank building at 539 Eastern Parkway was completed in 1930.

Now occupied by CUNY's Medgar Evers College, this land was previously the site of the Kings County Penitentiary.

Once home to the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers, Ebbets Field was the site of many baseball firsts.
