Clinton Street, south from Livingston Street in Brooklyn Heights. August 5, 1934.
The steps at bottom left lead to St. Ann’s Church, now part of the Packer Collegiate Institute. The building visible across Livingston Street (farthest left) is No. 133 Clinton Street, formerly the clubhouse of the Brooklyn Excelsiors, the early baseball club whose descendants would become the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Excelsiors were founded as a team of the “Jolly Young Bachelors” fraternal organization and are credited with expanding the sport’s popularity via recreational games during the Civil War.
