Waterfront from Roof of Irving Trust Company Building, May 4, 1938.
"Broad Street and the East River from the roof of One Wall Street. The two copper domes are 20-22 Broad Street. The building on the left is the Equitable Building and on the right is the Continental Bank & Trust Co."
The Commercial Cable Building (the domed building at the bottom), completed in 1897 and designed by Harding and Gooch, employed concrete-filled cast iron pipes for an innovative approach to foundation engineering used to stabilize the slender tower. The building was 304 feet tall.
Demolished for a 27-story office building in the mid 1950s, today 20 Broad Street is being converted into high residences with a plan to add an additional six stories.
