Aftermath of a four-alarm fire in Canarsie, Brooklyn; July 9, 1924.
The blaze started in wood-frame building at the foot of East 92nd Street, and, aided by strong winds, spread quickly to the Canarsie waterfront, where it destroyed as many as 100 boats.
The fire spared the Golden City amusement park, west of the Canarsie pier. A decade later, another fire swept through the park's wooden buildings, causing the attraction to close for permanently.
