The Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch, ca. 1904.
The Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch is a Civil War memorial located at the entrance to Prospect Park in Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza. Designed by John H. Duncan with sculptures by Frederick MacMonnies, the granite arch began construction in 1889 and was dedicated on October 21,1892 to honor the Union soldiers who perished in the Civil War. Additional statuary groups and smaller bronze pedestals were added between 1892 and 1901.
