Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 26th Street
Fifth Avenue, east side, north from and including 26th Street, showing the N.W. corner of Msdison Square and the Hotel Brunswiclt on the N.E. corner of 20th Street. According to King's Handbook of New York (1892), parades of the Coaching Club always started in front of the Brunswick, and he mentions it as much favored by English tourists. This photograph was taken by one such Englishman, and was annotated in his own writing "Where I stayed with
Lucas C. E. en route from Venezuela to England".
About 1906 this building will be replaced by the 12-story Brunswick Building, as Madison Square changes into a strictly business district.
1888.
