Manhattan: Riverside Drive - 181st Street (West)
Riverside Drive, north from a point to the north of W. 181st Street showing this sweepirg thoroughfare skirting the North (Hudson) River. At the right is an inclined roadway (Riverside Terrace) that leads to the apartment house section, known as Washington Heights and from which the new George Washington Bridge projects across the river to New Jersey. The enbanked colonnade forms a portion of Dr. Chas. V. Paterno's estate and same will remain after demolition in 1938 of this individuals castle-like home. He, being a real-estate operator will improve this site with a series of modern garden apartments, similar to his Hudson View Gardens of the same vicinity. View 3 is a vista from the pergola during the aforementioned operation. For additional views taken during this construction period, see, files under Cabrini Boulevard ( a new name
for Northern Avenue since 1938).
