The Pirate House was built in 1802 and has been the home of ghost stories, pirates, and rumors. It is said to have been used by those who associated with smugglers and pirates, such as Jean Lafitte. Evidence of a secret underground tunnel from the house to the shore was found in the 1930's and is thought to have been used by pirates to smuggle contraband from their ships. When ownership transferred to more reputable occupants, the stories of mysterious appearances of ghosts began circulating. The house was destroyed in 1969 by Hurricane Camille.
