This home was built in 1850. It has served as a private residence to many, including a ghost known as George, a girl's school, and a hotel. One of its early owners referred to the property as Bellevue. In later years, it was rumored to have been a vacation spot of Henry Wadworth Longfellow, whose poem, "The Building of the Ship" references Pascagoula. Though no evidence of Longfellow traveling here can be found, the rumor helped to name the house "The Longfellow House".
