Beauvoir, whose name means "beautiful view", was built in 1852. It is most known for being the home of Jefferson Davis who purchased it in 1887. Following his death in 1889, his widow sold the property to the United States Confederate Veterans to be used as a home for Confederate Veterans. The Beauvoir Soldiers Home was in operation from 1903-1957. When the last occupants left the property, the home was opened to the public as a memorial to Jefferson Davis. Though damaged by both Hurricanes Camille and Katrina, the house still remains.
