Pennsylvania coal was brought to northeast markets through this large transfer facility on the Hudson River just south of the Quassaick Creek. A rail line from the western coal mines came along the shore of the creek terminating here. Coal was then dumped into barges for river transit north or south or the coal cars were pushed onto rail ferries to cross to Beacon where a fresh steam locomotive would pull them east to New England.
